Finally a remote that works with all my devices. It contains all the functions required to use my TV, VCR, Reciever, and DVD player, including their special funtions like PIP, Menu, etc. The learning feature is great for functions that are missing. It didn't have a code for Hitachi DVD but I was able to learn 90% of the functions before running out of memory. Well worth the $22.

My system has two JVC VCR's. My old URC-7200 worked great. I thought the 7800 would have everything the 7200 had plus learning. Unfortunately, the boneheads took out the 0008 code that I needed. I had to return it and go with the Radio Shack 1994 instead. People complain that the 1994 lacks certain codes, but in my case the 1-for-all lacked the code that I needed.

After receiving a DVD player for Christmas , I decided having to use 4 remotes to handle all my electronics was nuts. After failing to adapte an OneForAll model 4080 to fit my needs, I turned to this site for guidance.

Swapping the less capable OFA remote for the Cinema 7 (URC 7800) solved 98% of my problems. The setup codes for the TV, cable box and VCR worked perfectly. The cheaper OFA remote didn't have buttons for programming the VCR. The 7800 had no trouble and even runs the full menus for the cable box.

The Philips DVD setup code however only allowed for turning it on and pulling up a DVD's menu. None of the selection arrows or buttons would work. The online documentation found on this site walked me through the 7800's learning functions to quickly setup these buttons correctly. I now have full access to my DVD Player's functions.

The device key copy feature was a real time saver. I mapped my TV's PIP buttons to both the VCR and Cable devices on the remote.

With a price of only $26.99 plus another $4 for 4 AAA batteries, this is a bargain!
If the Cinema 7 works with my forthcoming home theater, I'll be in heave!

Strengths:

Nice ergonomic shape. Easy to hold. Logical placement of function keys, right where they seem to want to be. Excellent programmability, far exceeding what it's user manual indicates. Keys can be recognized by feel, as most have a unique and identifiable shape.

Weaknesses:

Limited learning memory. No IR code database upgrade path.

I initially purchased a Pronto to solve my need for a universal remote control. When I discovered that most of the "discrete" commands for components that made the pronto so useful were originally found on OneForAll remotes I looked into the Cinema6 and Cinema7 models. My system is very complicated with DSS, 3 VCRs, Cable, OTA, DVD, CD, AM/FM, and A/V amp. Macro programming was the only way to simplify use of it. I found I could get my Cinema7 to replicate 90% of what I'd programmed the Pronto to do. It won't beep or light up, but it was 1/10th the price of the Pronto. A keeper.

Strengths:

Fits in hand nicely, controlls a wide variety of equipment, learning function allows you to duplicate those pesky "input" buttons never found on other remotes, macro buttons allow for "one touch" power-on of your whole system, very reasonable price.

Weaknesses:

Learning buttons cannot be labelled, so you will forget what 3L is for the VCR without a separate sheet, the special function buttons (menu, prog/guide, etc.) are all identical and it is easy to hit the wrong one when operative by feel.

Review:

This remote has fully replaced all of my video remotes (TV, VCR, DSS) which all the other universals I have tried up until now could not do. The programming feature is worth the purchase price alone, although there are not enough programmable buttons to make a home theater receiver remote obsolete (just too many functions on the original), but this remote is more than capable of handling the day in day out normal TV chores. A must have for any multibrand AV system.
